About Exterior Design Studio

Exterior Design Studio is an independent garden design practice led by garden designer and landscape architect Chris Neeld BA PGDip.

Based near Chippenham in Wiltshire, the studio creates distinctive private gardens and commercial landscapes throughout Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol, the Cotswolds and surrounding areas.

We believe a successful garden should feel connected to its architecture, surroundings and the people who use it. Each project therefore begins with a careful understanding of the site, the client and the character they would like their garden to have.

Our designs balance strong spatial ideas with practical detailing, carefully selected materials and expressive planting. From contemporary family gardens and rural properties to courtyards and commercial spaces, every design is developed individually rather than following a predetermined style.

Collaboration is central to our approach. We work closely with clients, architects, interior designers, craftspeople, specialist consultants and landscape contractors to ensure that every element of the garden contributes to a coherent and buildable design.

Chris has experience in garden design, landscape architecture, horticulture and project management, having worked on private and commercial landscapes in the UK and internationally.

His approach combines creativity with a practical understanding of how gardens are constructed, planted and experienced over time. Chris remains closely involved throughout each project, from the initial consultation and early sketches through to detailed design and support during construction.

He particularly enjoys working with clients who value considered design, good-quality materials and gardens that respond sensitively to their setting.
